How do I choose an IVF doctor?
In the beginning, when you are faced with the fact that you cannot become a mother naturally, facing that fact is not easy, but the moment which clinic and doctor to choose is even more difficult.
I faced the unknown. I faced a lot of unfamiliar terminologies. I just got lost. I started researching online to follow forums and got lost in all the different stories.
My family gynecologist told me to just relax, and everything will be fine. But nothing. He started with hormone control on day 2 of the cycle and took microbiological swabs and Pap smears. Everything was as per the book. He suggested that I do an HSG (hysterosalpingography (HSG) is an X-ray procedure that is used to view the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes. It often is used to see if the fallopian tubes are partially or fully blocked.)
The HSG went well. Then my family gynecologist suggested a doctor in a private clinic, but due to Covid, it was difficult to get to him. Оn the recommendation of friends, I went to a small private clinic where I was delighted with the doctor, but unfortunately, my delight was short-lived. The doctor was excellent and I’m sure she has a lot of knowledge, but at the same time, there was a lot of commercialism in her.
I have to admit that I was very disappointed.
Then I went to two more private clinics for consultation And I had an online consultation in a clinic in Greece.
The doctor in Greece was very willing and gave me a suggestion on which tests to do with my husband to rule out possible factors. Due to my age, he advised me to do Thrombophilia, ANA, and AFA panels as Karyotype and DNA fragmentation for my Husband.
Everything turned out well, but it turned out that there are mutations for which I need to take Methylfolate, aspirin, and of course Clexane 15 days before the transfer.
Everything made my life easier on the one hand and made it harder on the other. None of the doctors I went to suggested that I do the tests that I had already done. Due to Covid, I was prevented from going to Greece, so I had to choose a doctor from my country. Unfortunately, my first choice of doctor was a bad judgment, but of course, the tough choice restored my confidence…
But how?
Before starting IVF, try to get more information about the whole process and ask the doctor to do all the necessary analyses in order to rule out some points to achieve success.
- Go talk to at least 3 doctors and find out what methods they work with what fertilization techniques they use and what they would advise you..
- Inform yourself through forums but do NOT take it for granted because everyone can say anything on the forum, but it is still relative to how relevant it is.
3. Assess whether the doctor you are talking to is interested in your case or is just looking to pass you in line. The doctor’s dedication and his individual approach are the secret of success.
Of course, the IVF doctor works with a team of embryologists. Embryologists are the second part of the key to success
The commitment of the doctor and the team around him is the most important thing in this process.
You will judge that yourself.
I must emphasize that friends are not always the most honest when they say something about themselves.
Very often I hear the word you should Click with the doctor. But how?
Let’s be clear:
We don’t choose the doctor as a husband so we have butterflies in our stomachs. Just be clear-brained. Look consciously and soberly at the whole situation. If you are in the clouds, you can be very disappointed by the failure. If you are pessimistic If you are pessimistic, your psyche will destroy you.
Remember:
Not every IVF has to be successful. But if you have a doctor who has an individual approach to you, and looking for a solution to your failure if not from the first time, then from the second/third time there will be results.
Don’t be afraid to ask something if you don’t know. Don’t be afraid if you don’t succeed.
Do not be afraid to change the doctor if you think that he is not giving the maximum for you
I know one thing: God knows when the dice should fall into place. Just try to be conscious and sober about everything you do.
Follow these few steps and you will see that it will be easier to make the right choice for you.
Good luck
